The Restaurant

The Outpost Restaurant was originally an old farmhouse built in the early 1900’s and owned by local families before John and Barb Snelling purchased the property in 2003 for what they called a “once in a lifetime Tree Change”.   John worked as head chef at Café Di Stasio in Melbourne for 7 of his 13 years there and gained a wealth of knowledge in his passion for fine food.   Barb was originally from Noojee, having left at age 10 to live in Warragul for 5 years before heading for the city to pursue a career in Sales & Marketing.

The Outpost Retreat reached the pinnacle in the hospitality industry when in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 they were awarded the prestigious ‘Chefs Hat’ from The Age Good Food Guide.   However, with the Toolshed Bar/Bistro being more popular than ever, the decision was made to relinquish the Chef’s Hat and hence the Outpost Restaurant has now moved away from its fine dining focus and is now serving high quality pub style food.  This new direction has been a phenomenal success with patrons embracing the change and record numbers dining on the amazing meals that are produced from the talented Outpost staff.

With seating for up to 100 people, The Outpost Restaurant is able to cater for any occasion. It is the perfect venue for weddings as you can get married in the beautifully landscaped gardens and then sit down to a magnificent lunch or dinner, cooked by John and his team. You can enjoy the views from the wide verandah and indulge in outside dining in the warmer months or nestle in next to the open fire place when the weather turns cool. The rustic charm of the restaurant is a delight to the eyes.

The Outpost Restaurant is the perfect venue for mid-week group functions and can easily cater for tour groups such as Probus Clubs and tourist buses. The Outpost Retreat is a fully accredited tourism business and has won several awards including the Victorian Tourism Award for Tourism Restaurant & Catering Services in 2008.

The Restaurant is open for dinner on Saturday and lunch Sunday or for group bookings by reservation only. (The Restaurant will open at any other days/times for bookings for over 30 people by reservation only).
